Freestanding Walls

Recon’s Freestanding Wall System consists of numerous block shapes and sizes that allow you to customize the overall appearance of the wall while either improving the function at the top or creating a unique independent structure altogether. From screen walls to traffic barriers, Recon’s Freestanding Wall System has all the blocks needed to create a tailored solution.

What is a Freestanding Wall?

A freestanding wall can either be installed at the top of a retaining wall or as a separate, independent structure. Freestanding walls can be used as screen walls when placed independently or as a pedestrian barrier when placed on top of a retaining wall. With texture on both the front and back face, freestanding blocks installed on the top of a retaining wall can be partially buried or fully exposed; allowing for greater flexibility of finished grading at the top of the wall.

Freestanding Wall Block

Recon freestanding blocks can be placed directly on top of a Recon gravity or reinforced wall system. All freestanding blocks are textured on the front and back face and measure 16”(40.6cm) tall, 48” (122cm) wide and 24” (61cm) deep.

Retaining Wall

The retaining wall below a Recon Freestanding system can be constructed using either Recon’s gravity or reinforced wall system. Retaining wall heights and block depths will be dependent on site conditions.

Site Conditions

The addition of Recon freestanding blocks at the top of a retaining wall allows for greater flexibility when grading behind the wall. Freestanding parapets are a great option along sidewalks or other walkways.

Soils Information

Soil is one of the main components of the struction. Soils come in numerous types and compositions. Therefore, Soil properities are used in the wall analysis to predict a wall’s overall performance.

Freestanding Wall Block

Recon freestanding blocks are installed directly on top of a Recon gravity block and tied together using grout and rebar. All freestanding blocks are textured on the front and back face and measure 16” (40.6cm) tall, 48” (122cm) wide and 24” (61cm) deep.

Moment Slab Block

A deeper Recon gravity wall block is used as a moment slab block to provide additional mass when tied together with the freestanding units. The depth of the moment slab block is dependent on the magnitude of the force the barrier wall needs to resist.

Retaining Wall

The retaining wall below a barrier wall can be constructed using either Recon’s gravity or reinforced wall system. Retaining wall heights and block depths will be dependent on site conditions.

Site Conditions

Can be used adjacent to sidewalks and walkways that require pedestrian barrier or in parking lot applications where a traffic barrier is required.

Freestanding Wall Block

Recon freestanding blocks can be placed independently as a screen or privacy wall. All freestanding blocks are textured on the front and back face and measure 16” (40.6cm) tall, 48” (122cm) wide and 24” (61cm) deep.

Wall Footing

Depending on the conditions and application, a cast-in-place footing may be required. The freestanding blocks can be anchored to the footing using grout and rebar.

Site Conditions

Recon independent freestanding walls work well when privacy or screen walls are needed to match the site retaining walls. Freestanding walls can be stacked up to 6’ (1.8m) before requiring reinforcing.
